Estate planning can involve relatively simple matters, such as drafting a will for a small to medium-sized estate, or it can involve more complex matters, such as analyzing inheritance/gift tax consequences, and exploring legal maneuvers for avoiding the same, usually reserved for larger estates. Most people fall into the first category and are likely to receive competent legal advice from any practitioner licensed in Illinois that practices some amount of estate planning. For the latter, you are likely better advised to seek counsel from a practice that dedicates a majority of their business to estate planning, with an emphasis in tax law.
