Biography

Ruth A. Kollman is a 1990 graduate of Southern Methodist University School of Law. She has tried dozens of state and federal cases, both civil and criminal. She also has extensive state and federal appellate experience. She counsels attorneys throughout Texas in disciplinary rule compliance, in firms both large and small, in every area of practice. Texas courts have recognized her as an expert witness on legal ethics questions, and she has testified before the Texas Legislature regarding revisions to the Texas Rules of Disciplinary Procedure. She represents lawyers and judges in disciplinary proceedings and has successfully defended sanctions motions and administrative complaints for hundreds of attorneys who trust her with their futures. Ms. Kollman also represents plaintiffs and defendants in lawyer conduct and other fiduciary litigation. While the focus of her practice is legal ethics, Ms. Kollman undertakes civil rights cases of compelling public interest. Recognized by the State Bar of Texas as satisfying its MCLE ethics requirement, Ms. Kollman lectures on topics ranging from trial advocacy, trial skills, appellate advocacy, ethics, avoiding grievances and preventing malpractice. She served as a supervising attorney for SMU’s criminal clinic students and as a guest lecturer, teaching future lawyers trial and appellate advocacy. In addition to speaking across Texas, she has published more than forty articles and papers on criminal procedure, evidence, conflicts of interest and lawyer disciplinary and liability standards, and civil rights.
