Biography

In June, 1989, I was appointed an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. While an assistant prosecutor, I tried over 150 cases to verdict and was assigned to the office’s Special Narcotics Unit, prosecuting mid to upper level drug traffickers. In 1997, I was promoted to the position of Chief of the Narcotics Unit, a position I held until leaving the office in August, 2000. As Chief, I was responsible for overseeing the work of four assistant prosecutors, presented large scale drug investigations to the Oakland County Citizen’s Grand Jury and taught numerous courses to cadets at the Oakland Police Academy and presented state drug law issues to special agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

In August, 2000, I left public service to pursue my own practice in the private sector, founding the Law Offices of Paul J. Stablein, PLLC. In January, 2003, I merged my practice with Todd Flood and Todd Lanctot, both former Wayne County Assistant Prosecutors. My firm currently practices as Paul Stablein, PLLC, with offices in both Wayne and Oakland Counties. As a criminal defense attorney, I have practiced before all Circuit Courts in Southeast Michigan as well as Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties. I also have an active appellate practice having argued before the Michigan Court of Appeals as well as the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a federal practitioner, I am also a member of the bars of the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the Northern District of Illinois, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
