Q. Car rear ended me on the highway pushing my car into another vehicle. Car that hit me, drove off and can’t be found.
A: I am sorry you had this experience. When you are struck from behind and pushed into the car in front of you, you are generally not at fault. Assuming you have full coverage, you should go through your own carrier. If the people in the car in front try to bring a claim against you, then your insurer will defend you. If you have collision coverage or uninsured property damage, your carrier should pay for your total loss. If you have an injury and have uninsured motorist coverage, you should immediately consult with a personal injury lawyer (most, like me, don't charge any fee unless we make a recovery for you). I am also available to discuss this with you at no cost if you have more detailed questions. Good luck!
Q. (Utah) I was terminated due to attendance at my job, and my boss contacted my cohabitates to inform them.
A: You should consult with an attorney in Utah. Each state has different laws regarding communications with others. If someone says or writes something false, the publisher can be held liable for damages caused by the defamation of character (libel or slander). Many states also allow a cause of action for invasion of privacy. Since this is state specific, you should contact a local attorney to see if you have a claim worth pursuing. Good luck.
Q. Bit by dog at work, owner never filed report to police. Been 6 days and no vaccination records even. Should I sue?
A: You pose a very interesting question. The claims against your employer would be limited to workers' compensation. You can open a claim on the Ohio BWC website. However, the owner, keeper and/or harborer of the dog has strict liability. The only defenses are teasing and tormenting the dog or criminal trespass. If the people responsible for the dog have insurance or assets to collect upon, it is worth your while to consult with a dog bite attorney.
