Q. Should I go talk to a Det. without attorney case is self Defense. Assult with weapon. other party didn't come forward.
A: You need to hire a skilled and experienced criminal defense who handles serious and violent felony charges like the ADW you are apparently charged with. Not a negotiator like Public Defender, a real trial attorney. DA's respect trial attorneys more than PD's or "escort attorneys" who take a client's money and do nothing except twist their arm to get them to plead you. I concur with Mr. Abrams that you should NOT talk with a detective or any police officer about this criminal matter UNLESS you are represented by counsel who is present with you. The same holds true regarding not talking with with your family, friends, co-workers, or anyone else as they could be called as witnesses and testify against you. I strongly urge you to lawyer up ASAP. Not all attorneys are the same, some are better, and I mean a lot better than others, and legal fees to represent you can vary drastically so call around for a free, initial consultation. Then get a loan or sell what you can afford to part with if your freedom means anything to you as opposed to sitting in a jail cell (maybe state prison depending on our prior record) for up to 10 years or more. Good luck. JK Law Office of John Karas
Q. Being charged for the first time with 25850(a)/(c)(7). Gun was registered. What are cost estimate for lawyer?
A: Attorneys are prohibited by Justia from giving cost estimates on this site. Not all criminal defense attorneys are the same (experience, skill etc.) so call several, ask for a consultation and what the amount of legal fees they would charge. Be aware that most of the time PC 25850(a)/(c)(7) is usually charged as a misdemeanor but it can be charged as a Felony in which case the legal fees will be higher.
Q. I purchased a boat and got a bill of sale and title transfer and given the keys as well.
A: I agree with Mr. Abrams. Hire a skilled, experienced and aggressive criminal defense attorney who handles grand theft (if it pertains to the boat you bought) and/or grand theft auto cases. There are several potential defenses to the charges filed against you which could result in the charges being potentially dismissed against you or acquittal if the case goes to trial. You do NOT want a felony conviction on your record which could affect your employment or future employment, your right to own/possess firearms, ability to vote, etc.
