Biography

“We are a better State Bar because of people like Deborah Moy who want to be attorneys.”
Superior Court Judge Michael L. Robinson - Vice President, NC Bar Association; Councilor, NC State Bar

A self-professed “Air Force brat,” Deborah Moy was born in the Philippines and spent her childhood living in Gainesville, FL (Go Gators!); Dayton, OH (Go Reds!); Fairfax, VA (Go ‘Skins!); and Greensboro, NC. Deborah’s maternal grandmother, Eva Jones, was a tobacco sharecropper in Eastern NC, who raised nine children on her own. She credits Grandma Jones for instilling in her the importance of strength, hope, and humility, and for the ability to see the positive side of even the most hopeless of difficult situations.

Deborah graduated from the UNC-Greensboro, where she earned her degree in English in 2003. Throughout her college years and after, Deborah worked in the service industry, as serving the public has always been her passion. After college, Deborah was employed by General Dynamics as a Technical Editor, translating complex government contracts data into laymen’s terms.

In 2016, Deborah graduated from Elon University School of Law, receiving her J.D. as a Dean’s Scholar. She served as a student mentor, helped form the Elder Law Society, and was the Notes & Comments Editor for the Elon Law Review. Notably, Deborah’s student note was selected for publication in the Elon Law Review.

Deborah worked with the Veterans Affairs and the Wounded Warrior Project; her heart has always been in public service. She views the legal profession as “the service industry on steroids,” and knows that part of being a highly effective attorney is contributing to the community. In addition to practicing law, Deborah speaks about the importance of hope and the power of positivity, and works pro bono hours to assist in disaster recovery.

Deborah’s mission is to to provide hope to the hopeless and to help others find strength in adversity.
