Born in Shelby, NC July 18, 1978. I grew up in Kings Mountain, NC. Appalachian State University, 2002; University of South Carolina School of Law, 2008. I am a board certified Family Law Specialist and have practiced predominantly Family Law and all issues relating to Family Law since my licensing in 2002. I am committed to representing my clients and advocate strongly for my clients both in and out of the courtroom.

I have been practicing law in southwestern North Carolina since 1981, concentrating in family law, wills, estates and guardianships, and civil litigation. I am experienced in each of these areas, and have successfully tried hundreds of cases over the years. My practice covers Cherokee, Clay, Graham and Macon counties in North Carolina.

Jon was born September 14, 1980. He is the son of the late, Perry Mitchell Welborn and Patricia Poteat Welborn of southeastern Wilkes County. Jon’s father, Perry, was an independent insurance agent in N. Wilkesboro. Perry worked for a number of years as a top selling agent for Farm Bureau prior to opening his own insurance company. Jon’s mother, Pat, retired from Yadkinville Elementary School in the capacity of a special education teacher. She continues to reside at the home place of Mr. Welborn. Graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School (1997), Wake Forest University (2001), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law (2005). In 2006, appointed Assistant Prosecutor for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. In 2007, named Outstanding Prosecutor for WNC by the Western North Carolina Crime Victims' Coalition. In 2008, opened law office dedicated solely to fighting to protect the constitutional and other legal rights of all people facing charges or allegations in state or tribal court.
