I graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice Theory and Research, along with a minor in Government from Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas in May 1978. During my time there, I was elected to the National Political Science Honor Society in 1977. Roya was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and returned to her hometown after several years of practicing family law in Austin, Texas. While in law school at the University of Texas, Roya focused her studies on domestic violence and international human rights law. There, she gained a passion for empowering people and concentrated her work on matters regarding international family law. Roya was then awarded the 2020 Mike A.
