I have been practicing Family Law for over four years and I enjoy helping people through the difficult times in their lives. I began practicing family law to help children with disabilities and their families. I now help all types of families through custody disputes and divorces by focusing on the needs of the children and the concerns of the parents. My goal is to help the families work together not just during the current difficulties but also in the future.

Barrett comes from a family that has long been a part of the East Texas area. Barrett was born and raised in Tyler. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and played catcher for the school’s baseball team. After high school, Barrett attended Texas A&M University where he earned a degree in Sociology as well as a minor in Business. Right after graduating from Texas A&M, Barrett attended South Texas College of Law. I retired from the Air Force in the grade of colonel after having served 29 1/2 years active duty. I was a three-time commander at the detachment, squadron and group levels. My first passion is caring about and caring for families in the broader community because they are the foundation of our nation. My other passion is to continue what I did while on active duty - caring about and caring for servicemembers, federal civil servants and families -- whether still serving or in retirement -- in honor of their contributions to our nation.

I have had a varied practice over the years. My principal practice now is divided between business litigation; criminal law; immigration deportation; domestice relations; and personal injury cases. I also assist clients with inventions to find financing for their inventions. I am primarily interested in energy production and desalinization projects. I work out of a home office because I like being on the water.
