William is an experienced and compassionate attorney who has been representing good people in difficult situations for years. William started his legal career here in Colorado Springs as a Deputy District Attorney, and most recently was in private practice at his own firm. His focus has been on helping the individual in their time of greatest need with a combination of compassionate understanding out of court and aggressive negotiations in court.

William (Bill) grew up on the east coast in Upstate New York, before moving to the Seattle area during High School. He graduated from Puyallup High School in Puyallup, WA, and then relocated to Utah and Ohio before settling in Colorado. Bill left Colorado for Idaho, where he attended and graduated from Brigham Young University – Idaho with a degree in English. He then returned to Colorado, where he received his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.

When not defending people in court, he spends his time with his wife, Linda, and 5 children. He enjoys cooking, playing guitar (badly), playing games with his kids, reading science fiction and fantasy novels, watching Netflix, and exploring beautiful Colorado with his family.

Legal Answers
3 Questions Answered
Q. I’m I in violation of a protection order if I did a welfare check on my wife?
A: Generally speaking, contacting the police is not a crime. However, it would be best to be extremely cautious if you are dealing with someone who has a protection order against you, as any contact could lead to charges being filed against you. The best intentioned action rarely gets a free pass on breaking the law.
Q. If I've been convinced of class 5 felony eluding and a misdemeanor 3+ dui, is there a mandatory minimum in Colorado?
A: There is no mandatory minimum for a class 5 felony eluding charge, but there is a mandatory minimum for a DUI with prior offenses. If you have two or more prior DUI convictions, you will do a minimum of 60 days in the county jail; though many jurisdictions within Colorado require significantly more jail time, often more than 6 months.
Q. Do I need a criminal defense lawyer to fight an unmarked state trooper's conducts against my 17 yrs old {d} for traffic
A: Having a knowledgable criminal defense attorney is always helpful, because "you don't know what you don't know". From what you have shared, it seems like there are some good defenses that could be used to help your child avoid a conviction for DUI.
