Miles N. Ruthberg

Miles, a Phillips ADR mediator, excels in securities, antitrust, professional liability, mass torts, and complex commercial litigation, closing settlements totaling nearly $2 billion. Previously, he was a renowned trial and appellate lawyer for over 40 years, serving as Global Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Litigation Department. Recognized as a “legendary litigator” by the New York Law Journal, he received its Lifetime Achievement Award and accolades from Chambers USA, Best Lawyers (New York City’s Lawyer of the Year for Securities Litigation), and the Lawdragon 500 Hall of Fame. His economics and mathematics expertise aids in analyzing damages and crafting innovative settlement models, including the largest mass tort class action settlement at the time.

Miles clerked for Justice Thurgood Marshall (U.S. Supreme Court) and Judge Carl McGowan (D.C. Circuit). He graduated first in his class from Yale College (1973, summa cum laude, Economics and Mathematics) and Harvard Law School (1976, magna cum laude), serving as Developments Editor on the Harvard Law Review. A member of the American Law Institute and American Bar Foundation, he is admitted to the New York, California, and DC Bars. He has taught and written on securities, class actions, and ethics.

Miles lives in New York City with his wife, Catherine Schreiber, a theater producer. They have two children, both doctors.
