Maya Shulman
I am Maya Shulman, the founder of Shulman Family Law Group, and I provide legal representation to individuals in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties facing family law issues, including divorce and custody. My experience with complex family law matters has equipped me to manage intricate cases involving move away situations, as well as interstate and international family law. I am deeply committed to maintaining confidentiality and discretion, often handling intricate custody, surrogacy, and complex divorce cases for California residents.
I moved to the United States from Latvia 35 years ago, after attending the University of Latvia School of Medicine. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Brooklyn College in 1995 and subsequently obtained my Juris Doctor from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law in 1999. I have previously taught family law at the paralegal program at Los Angeles Valley College. I am admitted to practice in Massachusetts and California, including before the Supreme Court of California, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Currently, I am an adjunct professor of law at the University of West Los Angeles School of Law, where I teach a Surrogacy and Adoption course.
In addition to my work in family law, I also handle cases involving adoption and assisted reproduction technologies. I am a member of the family law sections of The Los Angeles County Bar Association, the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and the American Bar Association.
Fluent in Russian and familiar with Slavic languages of Eastern Europe, I am well-versed in the challenges faced by the US immigrant population. I have also collaborated with St. Vincent’s Center for Family Law in the past.
