Marcus Shields
I began my legal career in private practice in Eastern North Carolina, where I represented both individuals and businesses in various areas including civil litigation, family law, fiduciary litigation, and criminal defense. I later moved my practice to Raleigh, North Carolina, and took on the role of a Post-Conviction Attorney with North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services, Inc.
Subsequently, I served as an Assistant Public Defender at the Guilford County Public Defender’s Office in Greensboro, North Carolina. In this capacity, I represented clients in both District and Superior Courts, focusing on providing client-centered criminal trial-level defense.
In May 2018, I was appointed as a District Court Judge by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. I proudly served in this role after being elected in the 2020 election. During my tenure, I presided over cases in every district courtroom in Guilford County and was the presiding judge for the Greensboro Juvenile Drug Treatment Court, the High Point Juvenile Drug Treatment Court, and the Greensboro Adult Mental Health Court. My time as a judge was characterized by a steadfast dedication to justice and fairness.
After my tenure on the bench, I returned to private practice where I continue to serve as a nimble and savvy litigator. I represent individuals and businesses in complex civil litigation. With over a decade of legal and procedural knowledge, I assist my clients in achieving their legal objectives. Additionally, I am a Nationally Certified Professional in Mediation and am qualified to serve as a mediator or arbitrator, helping to resolve legal disputes efficiently and with consideration.
