Biography

Jocelyn’s family immigrated to Las Vegas in 1981 fleeing a civil war. It is her experience as an immigrant navigating complicated processes that inspired Jocelyn to study law to try to help other families the way her family’s attorney helped them.

On her way to becoming an immigration lawyer, Jocelyn graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature in 2003. Thereafter, Jocelyn studied law at the University of Arizona where she was a member of the Arizona Law Review. During her time as a law student, Jocelyn represented her first family in deportation proceedings while participating in the university’s immigration clinic. After graduating and passing the bar in 2006, Jocelyn followed her heart and decided to practice law that promotes social justice for her clients. For many years, she represented clients who were discriminated against in their place of employment. Nevertheless, her first passion, representing people in their immigration cases, led her to change her area of practice.

In 2011, Jocelyn started representing immigrant families that seek the American dream, love, and peace, much like her family did 40 years ago. Today she continues promoting these values in her law practice at GWP Immigration Law.

In addition to her practice and advocacy, Jocelyn is committed to her community. For many years, Jocelyn presented in know your rights presentations designed to demystify immigration law to the public. In 2012, Jocelyn served as the president of the Nevada Latino Bar Association. She currently serves on the Board of two non-profit organizations: Dream Big Nevada and Leaders in Training. For the past five years, Jocelyn has served as an abogada consultora for the Consulate of Mexico. Jocelyn is also a member of CCSD’s English Language Learner Advocacy Committee and recently joined the Nevada State Bar’s Client Security Fund Committee.
