Q. Consequences of pleading guilty to speeding and reckless driving in NJ; no past offenses.
A: The consequences are the same whether or not you have a past traffic ticket unless you have a second offense for reckless driving. Reckless driving is one of the few offenses with distinct penalties for first and second offenses. A good lawyer can definitely help you reduce or eliminate the penalties you face. However, the ten points are probably the least of your concerns, as many judges will also suspend your license for driving that fast. This is often considered a lesser penalty compared to the possible 60 days in jail for the reckless driving ticket that the judge could give you.

Points accumulate toward a suspension, and at that speed, a suspension is highly likely. In fact, your insurance company may hit you much harder if you face a suspension than if you only accumulate the full ten points. Unfortunately, depending on the court, the suspension may be unavoidable, which is why these tickets generally require a mandatory court appearance rather than just a fine and points.

I recommend hiring a good lawyer with a proven track record of successfully reducing the penalties you're facing. I have seen many people try to represent themselves with these serious ticket, and walk out with a 4 or 6 month suspension.

Q. How can I get domestic violence charges dropped in NJ?
A: The witness really complicates things, but the best way to make sure he gets the best result is to make sure both of you have attorneys. I know you may say only he needs an attorney but this is a false premise, as many people think the prosecutor represents the victim but they don't. The prosecutor represent the state aka the police and therefore wants the charges to proceed even if you want them dropped. Thus the victim, if they want the case dropped should always hire their own attorney. I suggest that you setup one of the free in office consultations that most of us criminal lawyers offer if you want this person to have the best chance of a dismissal.
Q. How to contest or reduce a $86 improper turn fine on CDL in NJ?
A: You can contest a ticket two ways. 1) Do it yourself: Call the court and tell them you would like to plead not guilty and wish to have a trial or 2) you can hire a lawyer to do this for you and your lawyer will conduct the trial with you in your presence at court. Remember a good lawyer knows the defenses to each type of ticket, and more importantly the defenses that work. Lastly please note when you request to plead not guilty and have a court date generally you will pay a higher fine to the court and court costs, but still this is a lot cheaper then the points on the ticket as a good lawyer may be able to eliminate those points for you. For most people the smartest choice is to hire a good lawyer, because although a good lawyer is never cheap, it will be a lot cheaper then those points on your CDL license.
