- I am one of only about 154 California bankruptcy attorneys CERTIFIED by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization as a Bankruptcy Law Specialist. A specialist must be recertified every 5 years. In addition to having to take or teach a much higher amount of ongoing bankruptcy education courses the attorney must show that they have their practice primarily in Bankruptcy law and handled a significant number of bankruptcy cases including contested matters. The State Bar also requests and obtains the opinions of Judges, Bankruptcy Trustees, the U.S. Trustee and even other attorneys in the field as to the level of skill and integrity of the attorney. Only the best in the field make the cut. Beware of attorneys that claim to "specialize" in bankruptcy law as many are NOT CERTIFIED by the State Bar as specialists. When the State Bar says that the attorney is one of the best bankruptcy attorneys out there, who is better to judge the quality of the attorney then them?
