Demitrus Thomas Evans
My career began as a Ralph J. Bunche Fellow for Amnesty International which brought me from Miami to Chicago. In Illinois I became involved in the International Human Rights/Civil Rights cases which lead write a manual to encourage the use of International documents in local courts. After joining specialty law firms in Employment discrimination, Section 1983, business, I became a Federal Panel Attorney litigating full time. Subsequently I opened TEIL Firms After 12 years of practice and enjoy the growth of employees and successful clients who consult with me on a variety of national and international business transactions involving structuring, contracts, compliance, and Intellectual Property. I absolutely love what I do and enjoy the practice of law.
Besides my career, I am a wife, mother, dog owner/animal lover, Christian, avid runner and health enthusiast, writer, professor, and traveler. In 2014, I started a non-profit organization for the wrongly incarcerated and use it as a way to give back to the community. In my practice, inside bar associations and other organizations, I am blessed to work on behalf of and with some of the most amazing people in the world!

- Q. company name being used in another state by another company
- A: The issue is the infringement of a trade name. Is your name registered with the USPTO? or anywhere? Is their name registered? If not, you need to get registered, if possible. There are some issues. However, there are some claims for rights that are common law. You may need a legal consultation. admin@TEILfirms.com.
- Q. Is it legal for my business landlord to ask for financials 3 years into a lease?
- A: This seemingly is a landlord-tenant issue. However, as a practical matter for business, if you have already signed a lease and been in it for 3 years, this appears to be out of their right to request. However, I can see it making sense in two scenarios: if you have fallen behind and there is an issue with rent and /or the lease needs to be renewed.
- Q. If you already have an LLC and you create a new unique product - is it better to set up a new LLC to separate it?
- A: No, the LLCs are separate, if you have kept them separate with different bank accounts, addresses, etc. If your new product can be protected because of its new process (it does something that no other product does) perhaps your protection is not from the type of structure but in intellectual property rights. So maybe you need a patent, copyright or trademark. Sounds like you need a legal consultation.
