Brandon Wilson Barnett

He earned his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2005 and then went on to earn a Masters of Law degree (LL.M.) in Litigation from George Washington University Law School in Washington D.C. Mr. Barnett's legal career began in the Unitted States Marine Corps where he served as a Judge Advocate in duty stations across the United States. In 2008, Mr. Barnett deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, where he advised commanders on Rule of Law and Law of Armed Conflict in combat operations. Returning to Texas in 2012, Mr. Barnett founded Barnett Howard & Williams PLLC, one of the premier law firms in Fort Worth, Texas. At BHW, Mr. Barnett's practice focuses on criminal defense, military law, juvenile defense, and special education law. Mr. Barnett is also a Reserve U.S. Marine Judge Advocate, former military judge and adjunct law professor.

- A: Under both the US and Texas Constitutions, you have an absolute right to refuse to consent to a search of your person, home, or effects (including your bags). By refusing, you place the investigating agency in a position where they must pursue a search warrant and provide specific facts to a judge that amount to more than a mere hunch that they might find something.
