Andrea Hughes is The Law Dame.
My focus areas are Business Law, Elder Law and general civil practice services.
Business Law (creation, growth, collections, tax and location strategies, and contracts)
Elder Law (nursing home and Medicare qualification, probate, guardian and conservatorships, trust and estates, as well as wills and beneficiary planning)
Civil Practice (bankruptcy, landlord/tenant, contract review, and personal real estate and tax services)
Kansas and Missouri licensed attorney for over 8 years.
I began my legal career at MarksNelson CPA firm, in the State and Local Tax (SALT) department.
My responsibilities included working with business clients on each property site to identify potential tax-saving techniques such as: working with state and local officials to acquire tax credits and incentives, tax abatements and reviews, and administrative law appeals of current tax burdens. The latter was my main focus area, where I successfully negotiated tax savings of above a million dollars for my clients on an annual basis nationwide.
Concurrently, I started my own law firms Hughes Law Office LLC in 2014. My firm practice focused on bankruptcy and individual property matters such as titles, transfers and tax-saving techniques.
Moving my career to Leavenworth County as the Deputy County Counselor was an extension of my property tax work but in defense of local jurisdiction tax values. This career move was an opportunity to expand my legal focus area to include tax collection efforts and governmental law. I had already begun my expansion into governmental law in 2015, when I was elected as a member of my local City Council.
A career path that many considered unconventional, has created an efficient, persuasive, independent attorney who understands the business of a law practice as well as the practice of law.
